Partially-ionised two-fluid shocks with collisional and radiative ionisation and recombination - multi-level hydrogen model

چکیده
ABSTRACT Explosive phenomena are known to trigger a wealth of shocks in warm plasma environments, including the solar chromosphere and molecular clouds where medium consists both ionized neutral species. Partial ionization is critical determining behaviour shocks, since ions neutrals locally decouple, allowing for substructure exist within shock. Accurately modelling partially requires careful treatment species, their interactions. Here we study switch-off slow-mode shock using multilevel hydrogen model with collisional radiative recombination rates that implemented into two-fluid (PIP) code, physical parameters typical chromosphere. The differs significantly from magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) solutions due macroscopic thermal energy loss during ionization. In particular, temperature post-shock finite-width cooler MHD temperature. Furthermore, mid lower chromosphere, feature far greater compression than single-fluid analogues. decreased increased reveal importance non-equilibrium evolution media. Since not accurately described by Rankine-Hugoniot jump conditions, it may be incorrect use these infer properties atmospheric shocks.

متن کاملCollisional depolarization and transfer rates of spectral lines by atomic hydrogen . IV : application to ionised atoms
The semi-classical theory of collisional depolarization of spectral lines of neutral atoms by atomic hydrogen (Derouich et al. 2003a; Derouich et al. 2003b; Derouich et al. 2004 and references therein) is extended to spectral lines of singly ionised atoms. In this paper we apply our general method to the particular cases of the 3d D and 4p P states of the CaII ion and to the 5p P state of the S...
متن کاملRadiative transfer effects in hydrogen recombination masers
Using a simple on-the-spot approximation, we explore the parameter range in the (log(R), log(ne)) plane for which maser action in atomic hydrogen is present and briefly discuss how the borderlines of this region of strong population inversion arise. In particular we address the influence of radiative transfer on the population structure. We find that in normal HII regions no strong maser activi...
متن کاملCollisional dissipation of Alfvén waves in a partially ionised solar chromosphere
Certain regions of the solar atmosphere are at sufficiently low temperatures to be only partially ionised. The lower chromosphere contains neutral atoms, the existence of which greatly increases the efficiency of the damping of waves due to collisional friction momentum transfer. More specifically the Cowling conductivity can be up to 12 orders of magnitude smaller than the Spitzer value, so th...
متن کاملFluid dynamics of partially radiative blast waves
We derive a self similar solution for the propagation of an extreme relativistic (or Newtonian) radiative spherical blast wave into a surrounding cold medium. The solution is obtained under the assumption that the radiation process is fast, it takes place only in the vicinity of the shock and that it radiates away a fixed fraction of the energy generated by the shock. In the Newtonian regime th...
